Cannabis a source for Antibiotics?
Did you know that we are facing an antibiotics resistance
crisis? Unfortunately, the over usage and misusage of medication by the
pharmaceutical industry has led us to this "immunity". This new
worldwide affliction is estimated to cause 10 million death by 2050. The lack
of new antibiotics in the last 20 years helped bacteria to developpe
multi-resistance characteristics, meaning the efficacy of antibiotics is
diminished if not useless in certain cases.
Happily, some new antibiotics are being discovered in the
last few years. A new molecule was found in Mexico, this new antibiotic is more
specifically found in a type of wild beans growing in the tropical forest.
Another antibiotic was found in the gut of a tiny worm. Lastly, following a
series of researches in Canada one of the compounds of cannabis has been found
to have antibiotics characteristics. Buy CBD Products
Indeed, the cannabigerol (CBG) was found to be particularly
efficient. It has only been tested on mice so far, meaning the compatibility
with humans still needs to be confirmed and researched more profoundly. It was
tested on a specific bacterium called the staphylococcus aureus. This last
bacterium has developed a high resistance to most antibiotics we know today.
Although, the CBG molecule seemed to kill common MRSA
(multiple-resistant- staphylococcus aureus) and other cells that are notably
resistant to antibiotics which can cause repeated infections. The Cannabis
molecule also helped to get rid of "bio-films" of MRSA that can
accumulate on the skin or medical implants.
Eric Brown, study lead and professor of biochemistry and
biomedical sciences at Mc Master university said: "This research became
top of mind for us. There has been some stigma of investing in this kind of
research, but there's increasing anecdotal evidence of the medicinal use of
cannabis. The stigma seems to be waning." He also added: "CBG proved
to be marvelous at tackling pathogenic bacteria. The findings suggest a real
therapeutic potential for cannabinoids as antibiotics. Wholesale CBD Oil
Cannabis, similarly to other plants like tee tree or
turmeric contains powerful antibacterial and have been used for thousands of
years. Plants use those antibacterial molecules to protect themselves from
fungal and infections. Usually, when used for humans, these molecules will be
useful only for exterior infections.
